Learning this half term
As Writers we will examine the text The Bear in the Stars and create a persuasive argument persuading our readers to use renewable energy and go carbon neutral. We will write a letter to Boris Johnson explaining the dangers of plastic pollution. We will look at descriptive texts from the perspective of a sea animal based around Planet Earth.
Place Value, the four operations, fractions and percentages
"How would I survive a natural disaster?"
We will be learning about the cause and affect of natural disasters. Where they occur around the world and we will study Pompeii. We will concentrate on environmental regions and identify the human and physical characteristics of that specific place and how it has changed over time. Compare and contrast the area and look at the preservation of humans.
We will use our knowledge to decide how to mix and separate and explain changes of state. We will plan enquiries and use appropriate techniques and apparatus to conduct tests. We will record and present our own findings and give conclusions based on scientific evidence.
Welcome to Rowan Class :)
We hope you had a very relaxful summer holidays and are now ready for Year 6! We are really looking forward to starting your last year here at New Moston in Rowan Class! Both myself and Miss Hart are here if you feel nervous or need help with anything.
Here is some useful information for Rowan Class
PE will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please make sure you bring in your PE kit. This can be a pair of shorts and a t-shirt or a tracksuit/warm clothes for winter and a pair of trainers.
Reading is very important and the minimum expectation is that you read at least three times a week at home. This then needs to be recorded in your reading record and be signed by an adult. This record is then checked every Monday at school so please make sure they are brought in. Once you have finished your reading book, please bring it in so it can be changed.
Homework is set every Friday and is due the following Thursday. This year homework will be set on Google Classrooms and your usernames and passwords are the same as last year. Each piece of homework usually consists of a piece of English, Maths and Topic.
Weekly spellings are given out every Monday for a spelling test on the Friday. It is really important to practice your spellings as they are used a lot throughout your work and will help you in the future!
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to us. We are happy to talk in the mornings and after school but also have the class email if your child walks home.
We both really look forward to working hard this year and seeing what fun things we can achieve together!
Love Miss Gibson and Miss Hart :) x
