Please can the children aim to access TT Rockstars at least twice per week, their log in details are in the front of their Reading Diary's.
Reading - The minimum expectation is that your child reads at least three times a week at home. This needs to be recorded in your child's reading record and signed by an adult. This record needs to be brought into school every day. We are encouraging independent reading this year and the children will be reading their books in school as well as at home.
Spellings - Your child will be given weekly spellings to learn and these will be given out on a Friday. The spelling test will be on the following Friday.

Learning this half term
Our first unit of work this year will be centered around the book - The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. We will be reading this book in our whole class read lessons and using the book to produce many different writing outcomes from. In the first half term we will be writing a setting description, a character description and a set of instructions.
Click on the link below for an audio version of the book.
Place Value, the four operations (add, subtract, times and divide) and fractions.
Will the Great Plague defeat you?
We will be learning about the Great Plague and that it occurred from 1665 to 1666 We will learn that many people died within days of catching the illness and had symptoms including headaches, fever, vomiting and painful swellings on the neck, armpits and groin. Those with the plague were isolated in their houses and a large red cross was painted or nailed to their front doors. The phrase ‘God have mercy upon us’ was also written on the door.
We will be learning that materials have different uses depending on their properties and state (liquid, solid, gas).Properties include hardness, transparency, electrical and thermal conductivity and attraction to magnets. We will learn that some materials will dissolve in a liquid and form a solution while others are insoluble and form sediment. We will also study how mixtures can be separated by filtering, sieving and evaporation as well as knowing that some changes to materials such as dissolving, mixing and changes of state are reversible, but some changes such as burning wood, rusting and mixing vinegar with bicarbonate of soda result in the formation of new materials and these are not reversible.
In Design Technology we will be creating a moving toy using CAMS. We will research and develop design criteria to inform the design of innovative, functional, appealing product that is fit for purpose and aimed at a particular audience.
