Learning this half term
As Writers we will examine the text The Bear in the Stars and create a persuasive argument persuading our readers to use renewable energy and go carbon neutral. We will write a letter to Boris Johnson explaining the dangers of plastic pollution. We will look at descriptive texts from the perspective of a sea animal based around Planet Earth.
Place Value, the four operations, fractions and percentages
"How would I survive a natural disaster?"
We will be learning about the cause and affect of natural disasters. Where they occur around the world and we will study Pompeii. We will concentrate on environmental regions and identify the human and physical characteristics of that specific place and how it has changed over time. Compare and contrast the area and look at the preservation of humans.
We will use our knowledge to decide how to mix and separate and explain changes of state. We will plan enquiries and use appropriate techniques and apparatus to conduct tests. We will record and present our own findings and give conclusions based on scientific evidence.
WELCOME TO REDWOOD CLASS
We hope you have had an amazing summer holidays and got to do the things that are special to you.
We are really looking forward to starting a new year with you in Redwood class. We know that some of you might be feeling a little nervous but that's ok - we all are. We will soon be back in the swing of things. We can all help each other by being kind and helpful.
General Information for Redwood Class.
PE will be on a Monday and a Thursday. Please make sure your child as a PE Kit in school. This can be a pair of shorts and a t-shirt and a tracksuit/warm clothes for the winter months.
Homework will be set on a Friday to be returned by the following Thursday. This will be set on Google Classrooms like last year. Your child's username and password will be the same as the previous year. The homework will usually be a piece of English, Maths and Topic.
Reading - The minimum expectation is that your child reads at least three times a week at home. This needs to be recorded in your child's reading record and signed by an adult. This record needs to be brought into school every Monday where reading will be checked.
If your child needs to change their reading book, they can bring it into school on any day and it will get changed for them.
Spellings - Your child will be given weekly spellings to learn and these will be given out on a Monday. The spelling test will be on a Friday.
If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to speak to us. You can grab us most mornings before and after school and contact us via the email address:
We really look forward to working together this year.
