EYFS Curriculum & Planning

Planning

All the children's learning takes places using a cross curricular approach.  It is good EYFS practice for the children to learn in the specific areas of;

  • Literacy
  • Maths
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

through the prime areas of;

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development

We plan all independent play provision and adult led learning according to the children's next steps in learning, their interests and to address gaps in knowledge.

Our Curriculum

At New Moston Primary School Early Years Foundation Stage we have adopted Development Matters 2021, with elements of the Birth to 5 Matters assessment vocabulary.  Our curriculum is based upon the Development Matters; Non-statutory curriculum guidance for the Early Year’s Foundation Stage.  This can be found here:

Our curriculum is written with the needs, wants and interests of our children at the heart of it.  Communication, language and reading are the main drivers as our children's baseline tells us that these areas need focus.  Learning is planned for the specific areas of literacy and maths to be delivered with the prime areas of communication and language, physical development and personal, social and emotional development in mind.  This ensures that the children's common learning needs are addressed within each and every adult led session.

The topics we use are based upon our children's interests to maximise engagement but they also offer opportunities to give our children access to new experiences to create awe, wonder and curiosity in a world away from screens.
