Mental Health and Well-being

"Mental health is a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential,

can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully,

and is able to make a contribution to her or his community."

World Health Organization

At New Moston Primary School, we believe passionately and work hard to promote positive mental health & wellbeing for every member of our school community -  children, staff and families.

We feel we have an important role to play in helping our pupils to develop their emotional and mental wellbeing and developing a growth mind-set. We talk about and promote positive mental health, as we believe this can contribute towards improving a range of outcomes for our pupils, including attitudes to learning and better attendance.

We know that children thrive in situations where they feel safe, secure and respected. Family and friends have a strong influence on health and wellbeing and shape the habits and behaviours which can last a lifetime.  Therefore at New Moston Primary School we believe it is important to support children AND their families to ensure our children achieve all they are capable of.

If you have any concerns at all about your child's mental health, please speak to your child's class teacher or a member of school's Pastoral and Safeguarding Team as soon as possible.  We are committed to supporting our pupils and families to have positive mental health and wellbeing.  You should also make an appointment to discuss your concerns with your GP.

Many of our staff are trained in supporting children with their mental health, and the teaching of strategies to support good mental health and how to manage their emotions and feelings is incorporated regularly into our curriculum.
