History
Will the Great Plague defeat you?
We will be learning about the Great Plague and that it occurred from 1665 to 1666 We will learn that many people died within days of catching the illness and had symptoms including headaches, fever, vomiting and painful swellings on the neck, armpits and groin. Those with the plague were isolated in their houses and a large red cross was painted or nailed to their front doors. The phrase ‘God have mercy upon us’ was also written on the door.
Science
We will be learning that materials have different uses depending on their properties and state (liquid, solid, gas).Properties include hardness, transparency, electrical and thermal conductivity and attraction to magnets. We will learn that some materials will dissolve in a liquid and form a solution while others are insoluble and form sediment. We will also study how mixtures can be separated by filtering, sieving and evaporation as well as knowing that some changes to materials such as dissolving, mixing and changes of state are reversible, but some changes such as burning wood, rusting and mixing vinegar with bicarbonate of soda result in the formation of new materials and these are not reversible.
Design Technology
In Design Technology we will be creating a moving toy using CAMS. We will research and develop design criteria to inform the design of innovative, functional, appealing product that is fit for purpose and aimed at a particular audience.
