Documents to help with structure, routine and well being at home

Palm Home Learning

Hi all,

As expected there are now a few children with different circumstances having to isolate at home. As a result of this I have decided to put some tasks on here each week to keep both guardians and children in touch with the lessons we are studying in school and to provide a bit of normality and structure for home. In addition to this I will also put some well-being activities and help in anyway I can with structure at home.

I am always here to help and if you need to ask me anything please do not hesitate to drop me an email at anytime.

Maths Tuesday 13th October - Chestnut and Willow Class

Maths Challenge

Remember you can only use the number once per calculation. Clue - There are 32 different ways! Can you think of them all?

English Tuesday 13th - Chestnut and Willow Class

Today I have some sentences. I need them for school on Thursday. The problem is my cat Elvis has muddled them all up! Can you help me sort them?

Look for clues such as the word with the capital letter will go at the front and the full stop/ question mark will need to go at the end. Remember to make sure it makes sense. Get an adult to help you read them to check.

Parents - write the sentence on some paper and cut it up. This way the children can physically move the words around.

1 - raining       today.      is       It

2 - time           it?          is            What

3 -  like        play           at        I            the              park.          to

4 - we         Can       some        please?       have        sweets

Phonics Tuesday 13th - Chestnut and Willow Class

Today we will continue to consolidate those phase 2 sounds. Using post it notes or paper, hide these sounds around the house/ garden.

s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h, b, f, ff, l, ll, ss

Ask your child to say the sound/ phoneme it makes. If they say it correct they can put it in their special bag (maybe a gift bag). How many did they get right?

Today, I would like you to start thinking about the diary entry we will be writing through the eyes of Vlad the flea. I would like you to look at the pictures below from the story 'Vlad and The Great Fire of London'. Can you write a sentence for each picture that you could use in the diary?

Example for picture 1

This morning, I was laid on Boxton's head feeling relaxed.

Remember to include capital letters, full stops, finger spaces, time adverbials and words to describe feelings/ emotions.

Maths Friday 9th October - Chestnut and Willow Class

Today, we would like you to create an addition poster to put up in the classroom when we are back in school. You could include the '+' symbol, Part Part Whole models, cubes, numicon and/or number bonds. You can use whatever you like just make sure it is bright and colourful! I have attached an example below. smiley

English Friday 8th - Willow and Chestnut Class

Now we know what a diary is and the features of a diary. I would like you to write me your own diary entry for today. Remember to include:

  • The date
  • Written in the first person (I, we, our)
  • Time adverbials (firstly, next, then, finally, lastly)
  • Include feelings/ emotions
  • Include key events
  • Sign off with your name

Remember your capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

PE Thursday 8th - Chestnut and Willow Class

Get your bodies moving today and that heart rate up!

The Body Coach

English Thursday 8th - Chestnut and Willow Class

Today I would like you to look at this diary entry. It is from a little girl who wears a red cape and wonders into the woods. Any idea who it could be?

Get an adult to help you read the diary. See if you can spot any of the features listed (you may need to read a few times to spot these). If you have a printer you could label the diary with the features. If you don't you could send me a video showing where they are. Or if you wish, you could list the features and write an example from the diary next to it.

Reading Thursday 8th - Chestnut and Willow Class

Here are the first 100 high frequency words. With an adult see how many you can read. Keep practicing these everyday to see if you can beat your score. If you have a printer, you could pop them on the wall or fridge and tick them off as you learn them.

Now that we are experts at using Part Part Whole models, we can now move on to using mathematical symbols when adding numbers together. For today's activity, please find things around your house to create your own '+' and '=' symbols. You could use pencils, pipe cleaners or even twigs! Once you have made your symbols, use them to 'write' some sums to 10. Challenge - Can you use teen numbers? smiley

Thursday 8th October - Maths -Palm

Thurs 8th October - Handwriting - Palm

For the handwriting activities it does not need to always be completed on paper - especially useful for those with no printer - try a range of sensory materials such as;

*Shaving foam

*Play dough

* Sandpaper

* Grass

*Flour

*Sand

* Oats

Children can physically draw the letter then shape the letter in the medium. Bonus points if you can match the letter with a smell to really help the senses identify with the letter or find toys or pictures beginning with the same letter.

Wednesday 7th October - colouring sheet for focus during topic program.

For topic I have used the BBC radio program to help the children access the music study of this history unit. At the bottom of each page there are additional resources for help. If your child wishes to complete any drawings, writing or videos for me to see that would be fabulous. :-)

I hope this video helps you with the pronunciation of phase 5 sounds as requested. If your child is still working on phase 3 sounds that is fine :-)

Maths Wednesday 7th October - Chestnut and Willow Class

If we were in school today, we would be using lots of different maths resources to create our own Part Part Whole models - just like the cubes above. As you are at home keeping safe, please find something interesting to complete your own Part Part whole models. Some ideas include pasta, pom poms, buttons, grapes and even sweets! You could draw the Part Part Whole model on a piece of paper if you do not have a printer or simply use the one below. I can't wait to see your Part Part Whole models! smiley

English Wednesday 7th - Chestnut and Willow Class

We will continue to look at different features of a diary entry today. Diary entries are written after an event has happened. Therefore, it is written in the past tense - it has already happened so it is in the past.

Below are a list of words. Some are past tense and some are present tense. Can you sort the words? Which are past tense words? Which are words you could use in your diary?

Phonics and Handwriting Wednesday 7th -Willow and Chestnut Class

Today, we would like you to listen to the 'Alphabet rap' below. You will hear the different sounds for the letters and the different letter names. See if you can join in!

When you have finished practice writing your upper and lower case letters. Be sure to start and finish in the right place. As you practice, try to say the letter sound and the letter name.

Maths Tuesday 6th October - Chestnut and Willow Class

So for today's maths activity we are looking at Part Part Whole models again. This time we are using groups of objects rather than numerals. To begin, please use the PowerPoint to refresh your memory and get your Part Part Whole thinking caps on! After that, please have a go at completing the White Rose Maths question sheet below. smiley

English Tuesday 6th - Chestnut and Willow Class

When we are back in school we are going to be writing a diary entry (just like Samuel Pepys). Do you know what a diary is? Do you have one? We use diaries to record important events and our feelings.

For today's English work, we are going to be looking at different vocabulary we can use in our writing. Look at each Emoji picture. What feeling do you think they are showing? Get an adult to cut up the different vocabulary and see if you can sort it under the correct Emoji. If you don't have a printer your adult could read you the words and you record them into 4 columns.

I look forward to seeing some of these new words in your writing! smiley

Phonics Tuesday 6th - Chestnut and Willow Class

Today, we would like you to carefully read each of the captions and match it to the correct picture. Carefully sound out your words and blend them back together.

Maths Monday 5th October - Chestnut and Willow Class

Today, we are using Part Part Whole models. These are really useful when adding and taking away numbers. Please fill in the missing numbers to complete the Part Part Whole models on the document below. Some of them may have more than one missing number. Don't forget you can use your fingers to help you! Challenge - Can you create your own Part Part Whole models? Can you include teen numbers? smiley

Phonics Monday 5th October - Chestnut and Willow Class

Read the words carefully. Can you find the picture to match the word?

English Monday 5th October - Chestnut and Willow Class

Today, we will continue to think about the character Vlad from our story. Vlad liked to do lots of things such as 'biting'. Doing words are called 'verbs'. Can you sort the words on the document into the words that are verbs and the words that are not. You could video yourself acting out the verbs (doing words) to help you figure out how to sort them.

Maths Friday - Chestnut and Willow Class

Maths Friday - Chestnut and Willow Class

In school, we have been focusing on number. For today's activity, please can you draw your own number line to 20. Remember the numbers need to be equally spaced out and don't forget the number 0! Once you have done this, ask an adult to challenge you to say one more and one less than a number smiley

Phonics Friday - Chestnut and Willow Class

Use the sound mat to practice your phase 2 sounds with an adult. You could use a pointer to select sounds at random. How many can you do in a minute?

English Friday - Chestnut and Willow Class

Once you have reminded yourself of the story of Vlad. We would like you to draw a picture of him and think of as many adjectives (describing words) as you can for him. Write these around his picture.
