Meet the Senior Leadership Team

At New Moston Primary School, our Senior Leadership Team (SLT) is responsible for leading the vision, direction, and daily life of the school.

We work together to ensure:

  • High standards in teaching, learning, and behaviour

  • A safe, inclusive and nurturing environment

  • Strong partnerships with parents and the wider community

  • Ongoing school improvement across all areas

Our SLT brings a range of experience, skills and passion to their roles - all focused on one shared goal: giving every child the best possible start in life.

Mr Stewart – Headteacher

“Growth is the driving force behind everything we do — and I’m proud to lead a school where ambition, care, and community come together every day.”

Mr Stewart joined New Moston Primary School in January 2025, bringing a wealth of leadership experience and a proven track record of school improvement. Prior to joining New Moston, he was Headteacher at a large primary school in Bolton, where his work in transforming standards and culture led to him being named Bolton’s Headteacher of the Year in 2024.

Mr Stewart is passionate about creating a school where children are challenged to aim high, supported to grow as individuals, and proud of who they are. He leads on the strategic direction of the school, including teaching and learning, behaviour, personal development, and community engagement.

Under Mr Stewart's leadership, New Moston is on a clear journey of growth - rooted in high standards, positive attitudes, and a deep belief in the potential of every child.

Mr Woodburn – Deputy Headteacher

Mr Woodburn joined New Moston in April 2025, bringing experience of being a deputy head in another school. Mr Woodburn has previously lived in New Moston and is dedicated to the improvement journey, serving the community and wanting the school to be the best it can be.

Mr Woodburn supports whole-school improvement and leads on Pastoral and Inclusion. He is also the school's designated safeguarding lead. A key part of his role is working with the pastoral team at New Moston staff to support children and families to ensure that we remove barriers to learning.

Mrs Toshkezi - Assistant Headteacher

Mrs Toshkezi leads the Upper Key Stage 2 team and supports transition to high school, SATs preparation, and high-quality teaching and learning across Years 5 and 6. She also leads English across the school and has recently taken on responsibility for whole school Teaching and Learning, helping to shape our teaching and learning frameworks to strengthen the quality of education we provide.

Having worked at New Moston since 2001, she knows our community inside out - having even taught some of our current parents - and brings a deep understanding of our families, children, and school values.

Mrs Rabbitt - Assistant Headteacher

Mrs Rabbitt leads the Lower Key Stage 2 team and supports high-quality teaching and learning across Years 3 and 4. She is focused on raising standards in this phase and supporting children to succeed in the national Multiplication Tables Check.

She has recently taken on responsibility for SEND and, from 2025/2026, will work alongside the SENDCo to strengthen SEND provision across the school. Her drive for improvement and inclusive practice ensures all children are supported to achieve their potential.

Mrs Waddell - Assistant Headteacher

Mrs Waddell leads the Key Stage 1 team and is the school’s Phonics Lead. She is passionate about early reading and works tirelessly to ensure every child has the skills and confidence to succeed in the Phonics Screening Check.

She also leads reading and phonics workshops for parents, supporting strong links between home and school. With a focus on behaviour and high standards in Key Stage 1, she champions our school values and sets clear expectations to create a calm and purposeful environment.

Having worked at New Moston since 1988, she brings a wealth of experience and deep commitment to our children and families.

Mrs Rashid - Assistant Headteacher

Mrs Rashid leads the Early Years team and is responsible for welcoming our youngest children into Nursery and supporting a smooth transition into school life. She ensures children build strong foundations in their learning and development, working towards the statutory goal of achieving a Good Level of Development (GLD) by the end of Reception. Mrs Rashid also supports the transition into Key Stage 1, helping to create a seamless journey through the early stages of education.

From September, she will lead on our Personal Development Strategy, working to enhance the opportunities children receive through our personal development framework. Her nurturing leadership and commitment to the whole child ensure that every child feels safe, valued, and ready to thrive.
