Curriculum Framework
Engagement, Entitlement, Enrichment, Enhancement
At New Moston, our Curriculum Framework is the foundation for all learning. It is designed to ensure that every child — regardless of starting point — is inspired, included, challenged, and supported to achieve their very best.
Our curriculum is broad, balanced, and ambitious, underpinned by our school values of Growth, Standards, Attitude, and Pride.
The framework is built around four key pillars that shape the intent, implementation, and impact of our curriculum. These pillars support every child — from those who need support to access learning, to those who need to be stretched beyond the curriculum to deepen and extend their understanding. No child is left behind.
What is the Curriculum Framework?
The Curriculum Framework sets out the structure that guides all teaching and learning at New Moston. It ensures consistency and clarity in what we teach, how we teach it, and how learning is experienced by children across every phase and subject.
It provides a joined-up approach to curriculum design, ensuring that children are engaged, know their entitlement, experience enriching opportunities, and have their learning enhanced through personalisation, challenge, and ambition.
Why do we have a curriculum framework?
We believe a high-quality curriculum changes lives.
Our framework helps ensure that all children receive their right to a world-class education — one that supports their individual needs, celebrates their potential, and prepares them for life beyond the classroom.
This shared model allows us to deliver a consistent yet flexible curriculum that adapts to the needs of our learners and our local community.
How is the curriculum framework used?
The framework is used by all staff to plan, deliver, and evaluate the curriculum. It underpins subject leadership, curriculum development, classroom practice, and learning conversations. It also acts as a guide to ensure equity, ambition, and excellence across the school.
The Four Pillars of Our Curriculum
Engagement
“Every child feels seen, valued, and inspired to learn.”
We believe learning must start with connection. Children must feel safe, included, and motivated. Engagement means:
-
Building positive relationships and a strong classroom culture
-
Designing learning that sparks curiosity and interest
-
Removing barriers to learning for all pupils, including those with SEND
-
Creating inclusive classrooms where every child is ready to learn
Entitlement
“Every child receives a full, ambitious curriculum.”
Every child has the right to access high-quality learning in every subject. Entitlement means:
-
Delivering the full National Curriculum and beyond
-
Ensuring all children — regardless of background or need — are taught the same powerful knowledge
-
Providing access to specialist teaching where appropriate
-
Having high expectations for all learners, including those who are disadvantaged
Enrichment
“Every child experiences wider opportunities that bring learning to life.”
We want learning to go beyond the classroom. Enrichment means:
-
Offering trips, visits, speakers, and events that deepen understanding
-
Providing clubs, competitions, and creative outlets for talents to flourish
-
Making cross-curricular links that make learning memorable
-
Giving children the chance to explore new ideas, cultures, and passions
Enhancement
“Every child is supported and challenged to go further.”
We tailor learning to meet individual needs — supporting those who need help to access learning and challenging those who are ready to go beyond. Enhancement means:
-
Adapting teaching to meet specific learning needs
-
Extending learning opportunities for high attainers
-
Providing personalised scaffolding and stretch
-
Using feedback and assessment to drive improvement
